On May 14, 2014 in one of Riga's orphanages NGO "Independence Balt." organized a preventive seminar about drugs and its harmfulness. This is the third seminar in two months, led by NGO’s volunteers Sergey Konstantinov and Pavel Dubovsky.
They showed interesting audio material for youngsters, presented statistical data and shared their own personal life experiences. Young people were also shown a video with horrific facts about the consequences of use of Spice. At the end of the seminar orphanage representatives expressed their gratitude to the association for the positive impact on children by leading this seminar.
14 мая 2014 года в одном из детских домов г.Риги были проведены профилактические семинары о вреде наркотиков. За последний месяц – это уже 3й подобный семинар, проведенный волонтёрами общественной организации „Neatkarība Balt”, Сергеем Константиновым и Павлом Дубовским. Организаторы мероприятия предоставили вниманию подростков интересный материал для прослушивания, который сопровождался статистикой, личными рассказами волонтёров, а так же видео, демонстрирующими ужасающие факты последствий курения СПАЙСа. В завершении представители детского дома выразили свою благодарность за оказанное влияние на детей.
On May 8, 2014, NGOs "Independence Balt." volunteers at the Dobeles Secondary School No.1 for Grade 8 students organized an educational lecture "Drug effects on young people", with special emphasis on the danger of herbal spice mixture.
Lectures aim was to inform young people about drug use risk factors. During the meeting, volunteers shared their stories about the drug problem among young people, drug dangers, consequences of use, why young people start using drugs and what problems have to fight drug addicts’ family, friends and loved ones. The participants and volunteers watched video materials on drug use outcomes.School staff agrees that such educational lectures are very necessary and essential, because the drug abuse problem among young people is evident what see teachers in the everyday.
At the end, students asked a variety of questions they are interested about drugs and their effects. School administration gratitude for the cooperation of organization "Independence Balt." volunteers and presented them school souvenirs.
Last Thursday, on April 17th, one of the Riga city schools opened their doors to the NGOs "Independence Balt." volunteers. "Nowadays drug effects on young people in society" - this was the title of seminar for 8th grade students. School had gathered in the assembly hall 150 students who all listened to the main message of the seminar.
During the seminar participants discussed the main issues on the nature of drug abuse, dependence potential and consequences of drug use. Youth and children's drug abuse problem in today's society is very urgent. Directly or indirectly, but this problem affects almost one in every five of the population. Herb mixture distribution and its use currently have reached a critical mark in the country and in some cases it leads to irreversible consequences. Organisation volunteers presented to the audience some addiction hospital statistics, which at this moment are filled with young people aged 15-25 years. Unfortunately, only a few manage to get rid of the addiction. Volunteers shared with the audience examples and negative experiences from their life while being addictive and captivated by drugs. Stories can motivate young people to live without using any addictive substances. The audience was shown a video of the NGOs "Independence Balt." Help centres and their activities. Volunteers expressed their belief: "To release someone who are on to ‘drugs road’ is very difficult. However, if it is possible to save those who have not yet made their choice, we should put maximum effort to that! It is also the aim of this seminar." At the end of the seminar young people were given the opportunity to ask questions, and provide anonymous information about people who use or distribute drugs to work together to address the drug problem.
The association constantly cooperates with educational institutions to strengthen preventive work with young people and the prevention of drug, alcohol and tobacco use among young people as well - develop an understanding of young people about active, positive and healthy lifestyle opportunities.
